In June 2026, Eloïse Richard and Bruno Strasser presented ‘Toxic Asepsis: Chemical Sterilization and the Rise of Disposable Medical Devices in the 20th Century’ at AAHM.
Drawing on advertisements, corporate archives and hospital management journals, the presentation explored how disposable devices were constructed as safer and more convenient than reusable alternatives. It also revisited resistance to throwaway medicine during the 1960s and 1970s, asking what these histories might offer more sustainable healthcare practices today.
