A new article shares findings from CRCF’s ongoing ethnographic research into plastic and biomedical waste management at Fann Hospital in Dakar, Senegal.

Drawing on observations, interviews and a focus group with cleaning staff, the research follows waste from hospital departments to the on-site incinerator. It reveals how formal protocols interact with infrastructure, working conditions and the everyday labour required to manage increasing volumes of biomedical waste.
