Visualising Research for Impact

Body

In May 2026, Alice Street took part in ‘Visualising Research for Impact’ at the University of Edinburgh Impact Festival.

The panel Q&A explored innovations in social science communication, with a focus on how data visualisation can support the presentation of both qualitative and quantitative research. The discussion considered what effective data visualisation can make possible, what it risks obscuring, and how researchers might use visual tools with greater clarity and purpose.

The session also reflected on an exemplar collaboration between a researcher and designer, shortlisted for a Times Higher Education Award. As part of wider conversations around research communication, the panel opened up questions about how complex evidence can be made more accessible, without losing the nuance, context and care that research requires.
