After the Single Use team member Millie Marriott Webb presented a paper titled ‘The risks of single-use medical plastics on human and environmental health’ at the EDCMA SoMA 2026 Medical Anthropology and the Technocene conference.

The student-led conference brought together PhD and MA researchers working across medical anthropology and related disciplines to discuss emerging research on health, technology, and the environment.

Millie’s presentation explored interdisciplinary approaches to researching healthcare plastics and discussed the development of public-facing workshops and impact events combining methods from engineering, science and technology studies, chemistry, and social science research. The session reflected on how collaborative and experimental methodologies can be used to communicate the material, environmental, and social impacts of single-use medical devices.
