Crisis Acres (2025) — Screening & Q&A with Tom K Kemp

19 February 2026
16:00 - 18:00

Location

50 George Square
Two people are sat at a desk in a beige room. One of them is holding up a large sheet of paper with a body diagram that organises departments like organs.

Still from Crisis Acres (2025).

After the Single Use presents a screening of Crisis Acres (2025), followed by a remote Q&A with artist and filmmaker Tom K Kemp.

In Crisis Acres, a group of experts design and test a “megagame” — one that simulates the daily running of an imaginary NHS hospital. Using elements from boardgaming, roleplay, and the lived experience of the 35 surgeons, clinicians, nurses, administrators, politicians, and chronic patients who take part, the megagame becomes a tool for analysing and diagnosing potential problems within the world’s largest healthcare system, at multiple scales simultaneously.

Crisis Acres aligns with our work at After the Single Use in how it uses simulation and play to make complex healthcare systems visible, testable, and open to collective reflection.

The screening will be followed by a live remote Q&A with Tom K Kemp.
